Applications are reviewed and processed as they are received. Admission decisions are made within one week of receipt of the student’s completed application. All parts of the application, including a check for the application fee and deposit, must be received before the application will be processed. If you are accepted, you will receive a packet containing information on the course in which you have been placed, payment information, several forms, and a Student Handbook that contains more details about ADVANCE. If we do not have an opening in any course that you listed on the application form, you will be placed on a wait list. If a space becomes available in any of the courses you have listed, the ADVANCE office will contact you immediately to offer placement in that class. Apply early and avoid the wait list!

Application and Full Payment Deadline

  • April 6, 2009 (grades 8, 9, 10, and 11)
  • April 24, 2009 (grade 7)

NOTE: The student will be removed from his/her course if full payment is not received by specified full payment deadline.

Financial Aid
Financial aid is limited, based upon need, not merit, and is available for both in-state and out-of-state students.  If you wish to be considered for financial aid, a student’s family must complete the Confidential Financial Aid Application (found on page 4 of the application) and submit a copy of their 2008 federal income tax return and 2008 W-2 forms or their 2007 federal income tax return and 2007 W-2 forms. The student must submit the required financial-aid materials at the same time as your application materials.

Financial Aid Application Deadline

  • March 16, 2009 (grades 8, 9, 10, and 11)
  • April 24, 2009 (grade 7)

NOTE: The Financial Aid application deadline is earlier for all students and the financial aid applications must be received in the ADVANCE office on the specified dates. You will be notified by phone within three days after the financial aid deadline of the amount of financial aid you were awarded, if any.

HOW TO CORRECTLY PREPARE YOUR APPLICATION

APPLICATION CHECKLIST

1. Determine your Eligibility
Please see Qualifying Scores to determine if you are eligible to apply to ADVANCE based on your ACT or SAT scores. If you are not eligible to apply to ADVANCE based on your ACT or SAT scores, please see our Alternate Admissions Policy.

Several Math and Science courses have course prerequisites, so be sure you have taken the prerequisite courses in school or at a previous ADVANCE Program before you apply for a math or science course.

2. Make Your Course Selection/s
Read through the course offerings and make note of the courses you are interested in taking. On the application, you will be asked to rank your course choices with #1 being your first choice. Rank only those courses that you would like to take. You will only be enrolled in one course for the entire three-week session. Every attempt will be made to place you in your most preferred course, but courses fill on a first-come first serve basis. Please do not include a course in your rankings if you would not be willing to accept placement in that course.

3. Complete The Application
Complete your application (see Application and Checklist) and gather the following required information:

  1. Completed student application with clearly ranked course selection(s). You will be placed in one course. The application must be signed by the applicant and a parent/guardian.
  2. A check for $130.00 made payable to NSU ADVANCE Program. This includes a $30.00 non-refundable application fee and $100.00 enrollment deposit
  3. Current school report card (including midterm grades, if available) for this school year.
  4. A copy of your most recent SAT, PSAT, ACT, or Plan scores.
  5. If applying through our Alternate Admissions Policy, include all required documentation.
  6. If you indicate on your application for admission that you are applying for need-based Financial Aid, you must complete page 4 of the application and mail the required tax forms with your application. Otherwise, your entire application will be considered incomplete and will not be processed.

Please note that the Financial Aid application deadline is earlier for all students.
