Philosophy
In keeping with the maxim, mens sana in corpore sano (a sound mind in a sound body), the ADVANCE program offers a challenging academic experience with low student-faculty ratio complemented by creative and diversified recreational activities.
Student Supervision
ADVANCE students, regardless of age, are always in the presence of a staff member whether in class, at activities, or walking to and from the cafeteria and classroom. This rule is not flexible and is for the safety of all ADVANCE students.
Residential Life
Hailed as an exemplary academic program, the ADVANCE Program also has a stellar residential life component to ensure that our students have a terrific time while learning.
Our 21st Summer Residential Program
ADVANCE is the only summer residential program in Louisiana with an affiliation with Duke University’s Talent Identification Program (TIP). ADVANCE is patterned after Duke TIP and will host its 21st summer session in 2009.

Sundays are a relaxed time for ADVANCE Program participants. Students may sign up to attend religious services at worship centers in Natchitoches. A list of centers of worship will be posted and students sign up to attend a religious service just like any other activity. Transportation and a staff escort are provided to these services.
Rather than the usual “school day” breakfast and lunch, a brunch will be served from 10:30 to 1:00. Though different from the weekday routine, this meal is still mandatory.
ADVANCE offers great extra-curricular activities on Sunday afternoon and evening to help make Sunday a special day of play.
Checking Out During the Program
All students are expected to remain at ADVANCE during the weekends, as the weekends form an integral part of the ADVANCE experience. ADVANCE students find that weekends offer the most time to socialize and develop friendships. Accommodations can be made if you have a family event, such as a sibling’s wedding, to attend and those arrangements are to be made with the ADVANCE office.
Should your parents choose to check you out of the program for any amount of time, they must go through the proper checkout procedures at the dorm. This includes notifying your RA prior to the time of checkout, having your parents fill out the proper form at the dorm office, and your parents must present a photo ID.
Should your parents wish you to be checked out by someone other than your own parent/s (such as another relative, parent of another ADVANCE student, or neighbor), your parents will have to submit written permission 24 hours prior to your being checked out detailing exactly who you will be with and for how long. This may be faxed to the ADVANCE office at 318/357-4547. The person whom your parents have given permission to check you out will have to show a photo ID in order for you to leave the dorm with them.
This policy is designed for your safety and is not flexible.
